Bill Kneale
Viewpoints - Bill's paintings are about what has interested him in our visual world, what he sees and how he feels about it.
I paint in an impressionistic figurative way about what I see. Sketching records my initial impression, a very important springboard that begins the development through to a painting. The painting is continually questioned, and changes occur, small and large scale. I like to leave some evidence of under painting, this helps enliven the composition and shows some of the journey a painting undertakes.
I enjoy spontaneous painting and the excitement of broad brush strokes. The rhythm of marks and colour distribution are important to me. When I paint on site, the piece lives as an intuitive record which is quite quickly produced in acrylic, a brilliant and fast drying medium.
North Wales is such a dramatic and visually rich source of inspiration, we are fortunate to live her. This exhibition has four groups of paintings, the Eryri, coast and country, gardens and people. I hope you will enjoy sharing my reflections in ‘Viewpoints’. When a painting interests you and you see into it then it becomes your viewpoint to imagine.
