George Cockram
From Birkenhead to Anglesey: An artist rediscovered
George Cockram (1861-1950) was born in Birkenhead and trained at Liverpool School of Art, but he spent most of his life in Rhosneigr on Anglesey, where he was the resident artist.
This collection covers the entire range of Cockram’s career; from views of Liverpool in the early 1880s to Rhosneigr beach scenes of the late 1940s, and includes large exhibition pieces as well as works sold to tourists. The accompanying book, written by retired museum curator Charles Nugent, will bring together as much as can be discovered about Cockram’s life, give an overview of his career as an artist and provide an opportunity to reassess his work.
A number of Cochram’s works will be on sale but will not be eligible for the Collectorplan Scheme.
