Three Old Harps

A special exhibition curated by renowned, traditional musician Huw Roberts, chronicling the fascinating history of 3 triple harps with strong links to Anglesey

It is a privilege for Oriel Môn to be able to open its doors to a very special exhibition, which has been put together by the traditional musician, Huw Roberts, from Llangefni. In this exhibition, Huw has put together the fascinating history of the triple harps that have strong links to Anglesey.

It was the discovery of the old Welsh triple harp of the talented harpist Owen Jones ‘Seiriol Harpist’ (1860-1906) from Llannerch-y-medd, which led to the idea of creating this exhibition.

In order to ensure an interesting exhibition, Huw decided to also display two other triple harps – his own harp and the harp of his friend, the Welsh harpist, Steffan Thomas from Llangristiolus.

It is hoped that this exhibition will raise awareness of the Welsh triple harp which is recognized as the national instrument of Wales.

Huw said, “It is important that children and young people, adults and tourists become aware of its importance in the musical culture and heritage of the nation. The triple harp has a long tradition here in Anglesey – a tradition which continues today”.

The Exhibition will be held at the Oriel until the 18th of February, 2024.
