V'cenza & Piera Cirefice

A joint exhibition in the Long Gallery with landscapes of Anglesey and Ireland

Piera Cirefice is an Irish Illustrator and Creative, based in Wales with a BA(Hons) degree in Illustration from Falmouth University.

Having grown up amongst the Mourne Mountains, and currently living within the Cambrian Mountains, the beauty of the outdoors fuels her work, with travel reportage Illustration at the heart of her practice. Using traditional observational methods of drawing and watercolour, Piera aims to document her embodied experience within the landscape.

Through en plein air watercolour, Piera also hopes to capture the atmosphere of the living landscape, creating a sense of immediacy by documenting her personal response to the landscape at that moment in time. Influenced by the writings of Nan Shepherd, her work is guided by the idea that to go out into nature is to look inwards into oneself.

V’cenza Cirefice Bio

V’cenza Cirefice is an artist, researcher and activist from the Mourne Mountains, County Down. Growing up on a small farm among a family of artists instilled in her a love of nature and the land. This passion is reflected in her en plein-air studies centred upon the embodied experience of immersion within landscapes. Her work is inspired by time spent in the landscapes of Ireland and Wales with her sister and co-exhibitor Piera. These landscapes, from the Mournes to Anglesey, have been captured in watercolour, oil and print. V’cenza’s work speaks to the interconnection of people and place and spiritual connection to the land, connections which are crucial for fostering social and ecological wellbeing.
