Portrait of Dave Haynes

Biography

I was brought up in small farming community in Shropshire where I developed a love of nature and a fascination with art from an early age.

I worked at Chester zoo and The Welsh Mountain zoo, and went on to study at Chester school of art and North Staffs Polytechnic, where I specialised in ceramics. This was followed by many years working for the NHS while continuing to make my ceramic relief panels, tiles and sculptures.

My work has been inspired by the history of farming, wildlife and my zoo experience, and the lives and work of the Bethesda quarrymen, in which I became immersed, creating many quarry related pieces during the 1980s.

Since retiring I have been drawn towards two dimensional work mostly in ink and acrylics.
