Stitched to the Ground
A Geomôn Project
Join us in creating a unique series of wall hangings celebrating the geology, landscape and heritage of Anglesey.
11 February 1pm to 4pm
Information for Participants
Welcome and thank you for joining us in creating this unique series of wall hangings celebrating the geology, landscape and heritage of Anglesey.
Together we will create a beautiful patchwork of individually stitched pieces. Each piece will be 9 x 13 cm portrait and create hangings 72 cm across and 130 cm long, filled with Anglesey inspired stitched images. The fabric pieces will be pale greys, browns, greens and blues forming hangings layered with the colours of the earth, the sea and the sky and decorated with your inspiration.
Anglesey’s geology shapes the familiar imagery. Standing stones and ancient landmarks, churches and castles, coast, lighthouses and shipwrecks. Farms and fields, roads, shipping, rail, industry and heritage all shaped by the earth beneath us. And beneath the surface the rock formations that are the foundation of Anglesey, long recognised for its incredible geology, and today a UNESCO Global GeoPark, internationally recognised for its incredible and special geology.https://www.geomon.org.uk

Techniques
All kinds of stitch craft and embroidery are welcome including machine embroidery and stitched appliqué. Please do not use glue or heavy embellishments.
The Fabric
The pieces of fabric are in a range of plain pale colours from greys and browns to greens and blues. In the finished work these colours will give the effect of a landscape. The fabric is washable in cool water and gentle soap. Any markings on the fabric will wash out. The fabric has already been washed to ensure there is no shrinkage.
Stick & Stitch
This water-soluble stabiliser is tacky. Peel off the backing and place it in the stitch area. You sew through the film and it just washes away after.
Returning completed pieces
Please do not cut around your finished piece. Each one will be washed (if necessary), trimmed, pressed and the edges finished in preparation for sewing into the final hanging. Completed pieces can be returned by post or to a pre agreed return point. Completed stitched pieces to be returned by 14 March 2026 to ensure they are included in the hangings.

The finished work will be displayed during Anglesey Open Studios at the Watch House in Amlwch from 28 March to 12 April. Full details will be available in the New Year.
