Chris' inspiration for these paintings comes from the varied places she has visited on campervan trips around Europe and the UK, and nearer home in north and mid Wales. Recently Chris has combined her interest in portraits and figures with landscape/townscape, hence the title ‘People and Places’. Chris works mainly in soft pastel, exploring the rich, varied colour of this medium. Pastel is pure pigment, applied directly to the surface, allowing spontaneity, expression, varied mark making and colour adjustment. It enables her to exploit light and shade, which are so important to all her paintings, whether people, portrait, landscape or buildings.
