Educational Visits to Oriel Môn
At Oriel Môn we welcome school and college groups to visit our gallery and museum throughout the year.
We offer a wide range of workshops covering themes linked to our collections and exhibitions. Visits include guided time in our gallery spaces or museum, tasks for students to complete and a relevant activity in our dedicated learning space. In discussion with our Learning Team visits can be tailored to meet your specific needs and to complement in class learning.
The following are examples of some of our most popular workshops:
The Art of Charles Tunnicliffe
Oriel Môn is home to a permanent collection of work by Charles F. Tunnicliffe. The Tunnicliffe gallery houses a selection of Tunnicliffe’s artwork and sketchbooks featuring wildlife, landscapes and architectural studies. This workshop includes a gallery trail to explore the Tunnicliffe gallery and creative tasks inspired by the works of Charles Tunnicliffe.
The Art of Kyffin Williams
The work of Kyffin Williams is exhibited at various times of the year in either the Kyffin Williams gallery or in the museum, subject to the exhibition programme. This workshop includes a gallery trail and workshop, inspired by the works and artistic techniques of Kyffin Williams.
Stone Age to Iron Age
This educational visit introduces archaeology and the Prehistoric Period. The visit includes a museum trail to view artefacts in the museum and activities instigated by our handling collections. Our Iron Age handling collections include exceptional Llyn Cerrig Bach replica artefacts for students to explore.
The Romans on Anglesey
Students will have the opportunity to visit the museum to view artefacts including exhibits from Tai Cochion. These artefacts include a range of Roman pottery, examples of jewellery and coins. This workshop includes time to explore our Roman exhibits and exploration of our handling collection followed by an appropriate Roman themed activity.
The Royal Charter
This visit includes guided time in the museum to explore the permanent exhibition of artefacts from the Royal Charter shipwreck. In our dedicated learning space activities are inspired by our unique Royal Charter handling collection of original artefacts.
History of Anglesey and Cynefin
Examining the broad range of exhibits in the museum, students will learn what Anglesey was like from the Stone Age up to the 20th Century. Exhibits include Stone Age tools, axe heads, the Hendy Head carving and Bronze Age burial urns. Activities for this workshop are devised on an individual basis.
Expressive Arts
Across our gallery spaces we host an array of art exhibitions celebrating Anglesey throughout the year. Artists showcase work inspired by the landscape, nature, people and heritage of the area. Our expressive arts workshops can be tailored to suit your needs and include a gallery session and creative workshop.
